[Casey hadn't spent a lot of time at Draxum's old lab in this world, even while the yokai had been here, and certainly not since his departure, but he still knew where it was. He also knew several ways of sneaking in. At this point, he suspects his uncle has adjusted the security features, or at least has cameras up and running. But that doesn't stop Casey from periodically bringing food around. (It helps that, when he's in Uncle Tello's vicinity, he has ninpo access and can more easily get around some of said security.) He's determined to make sure his uncle is eating, and is still, well... alive and reasonably okay, even if he's angry and not talking to anyone.

So that's why Casey's here today, dropping off yet another tupperware.]

[It didn't take much for Donnie to figure out who was leaving him food, that's not considering using ninpo of course. So he hasn't actively increased security measures except in the space of Draxum's lab he was actually using, so there's that. In this drop off though?

Casey will find the previous tupperwares all cleaned and neatly stacked right where he'd being doing his drop offs, but other than that? No sounds of Donnie working, it's weirdly quiet for once. One of two things then, Casey has timed this at the rare "Donnie has gone to raid Draxum's garden for herbal supplies/Gone to get supplies in general" or the even rarer... Donnie's asleep.]

[The used and cleaned containers is a good sign, and Casey tucks them away with a quiet sigh of relief. At least this means he is eating something. Speaking of quiet, though, usually the lab isn't this silent at this time of day, so it has him a little worried.

Most of the time he'll drop off and go, since signs of life are enough for him, but this time he starts snooping around, just to check on his uncle and make sure he's still breathing.]

[Quiet as a tomb, and if Casey wanders in the right direction? He will find what Tello has been working on. Which is a lot of vials of blood being tested, although most of what he'll find of that is empty vials, and various mixtures of chemicals and herbal mixtures and even combining both.

And notes, lots and lots of notes. Most of them showing either no changes or negative results. But no sign of the turtle who has been doing all of this. No any sign that Casey could have tripped the security either.]

[Casey wishes he was surprised by the experiments and testing his uncle is getting into, but he really, really isn't. He can't help the flair of frustration he feels bubbling up inside him. This is so stupid. This whole project would go so much faster and more effectively if they had the smartest and most relevant person actually involved with it, but no, he has to refuse all help and do it all alone, again. Because that went so great the first time.

He's here for a wellness check, though, not a fight, so he flips his mask down and activates the tracker tech. If snooping won't let him find Uncle Tello, his own technology should.]

[Casey, do you really think... Okay yeah, Tello has a tracker in himself. Which will show he is in the building at least. So if Casey does decide to go find his uncle, the turtle is in a chair and slumped on the work table he is using, completely knackered/out like a light.

Of course it could be because of him not sleeping and it was finally catching up to him or... It could be from the fresh vials of blood by him, who knows!]

[Man, the bio-hazard in this place.

Casey carefully tiptoes around his uncle (very ninja), collecting the blood vials and finding proper storage for them so they won't completely go to waste, though if any look especially gross or coagulated, those he will leave where they are, because ew, they're already a lost cause. He angles the work lamp so it's pointed behind his uncle rather than near his face, to act like more of a heat lamp.

Then he finds a blanket with an acceptable texture and drapes it over the softshell's back. It's getting colder these days, especially with the storms passing through Folkmore.]

[Hopefully Casey isn't looking as closely at the fresher vials, because there might be the slightest hint of pink in the blood. Or maybe it's just a trick of the light.

But aside from that, not much movement from Tello. Until the blanket is on him, having something suddenly on his back makes him jolt awake and take a swing at whatever is touching him. Better move fast, Junior.]

[Here's the thing about family: it's easier to drop your guard around them. Casey's often that way, especially in a safe place, and even better, in a safe(r) world. He's not expecting a hit.

He doesn't look closely at first, busy trying to clean up, but it's one of the leftover vials as he's leaning over his uncle with the blanket that catches his eye. Maybe it is the light, but maybe it's real, and the dread he feels at the uncomfortably familiar sight has him distracted enough that when Tello lashes out, he is not fast enough. How hard is that hit?]

[Hard, but it's more a reaction to get whatever is on him away than harm, but it might leave a mark. While Tello doesn't seem to realize who he's hit, his eyes wide and not focused, he hisses as well.]

[A hard reaction from a supermutant is still pretty intense for a normal human, though thankfully Casey grew up in a world where taking a hit and being able to get back up afterwards was a critical life skill. It catches him on the cheek and flings him backwards, so the intended effect is achieved. While instinct has him rolling backwards and landing in a crouch rather than on his back, he stays down, ears ringing, face throbbing. He's too stunned to rise immediately.]

[Casey at least has some time to recover, as Tello's breathing is shallow and heavy. As his voice comes out in almost a whimper;]

I can't... I can't...

[He doesn't seem to be all there still, as he grips at the front of his shirt he's wearing as if that will help ground him somehow.]

[Neither of them move for a handful of seconds. When Casey hears that whispered sound, he very slowly rises, shuffling his feet across the floor intentionally so his uncle can hear him approaching this time.]

Uncle Tello? It's Casey. Casey Junior. Can you hear me?

[He crouches down beside the chair, his hands lifted, not touching.]

[Breathe, breathe. He seems to register that it's someone talking to him, and it's not a Krang. But it's still a little longer before he seems to refocus in reality. And even more before he answers Casey.]

I'm fine... I'm fine...

[Casey won't try to refute that, even if they both know it's bull. Instead he ignores it and focuses on getting past the first hurdle:]

Keep going, deep breaths, in and out. I'll count.

[This always helped with his panic attacks, when Rue walked him through them, and Hunter's too. Something simple to fixate on. He starts counting up, and will continue as Tello breathes unless he's stopped.]

[It does help, even if he'll deny it later, as he slowly returns to the present. His hand hurts a little, and at first he thinks maybe he whanged it on the work table. But the fact nothing appears to be disturbed in a way that indicates that happened?

His attention is now on Casey and well... Shit.]

... sorry, I. Sorry.

[Casey merely blinks back at him, some tension draining out of his shoulders as he seems to be recognized at last. There's a red mark starting to manifest on his cheek, likely to bruise later, and a small trickle of blood from his nose, already drying.]

It's... okay. I shouldn't have startled you.

[Yeah, no. Leo is going to kill him, as he lets go of his shirt and brings that hand to rub at his face. While muttering something about this happening twice now.]

[Casey leans back a bit and plops down on the floor, to avoid hovering over his uncle and making him more anxious or on edge.]

What do you mean, twice?

[Shiiiiit fuck dammit.]

Nothing. The first time didn't involve hitting anyone, so it's not even the same thing...

That's not really relevant, you know. [It was an accident anyway, it isn't what matters right now.] What happened before?

[Nope, nope. He's not going to just trauma dump on his nephew he just smacked. Not happening, as he straightens up and Casey might notice a subtle shift in how he's holding himself.

Putting the mask on, can't be weak in front of the kid.]

Like I said, it's nothing.

[Casey pauses, just watching him for a handful of seconds, taking in the body language (some of it familiar in a way he hasn't actively noticed in years, having thought it to be just how his uncle is) and his tone of voice.

He doesn't want to start another fight, but he's struggling to let this go. He wipes a hand under his nose as it itches, smearing the blood, and sniffs- not from tears, but to clear the airways.]

You said... you'd do your best. To stop masking. Are you masking?

No.

[The answer might be a bit too quick, but he's doing this to make things easier for Casey. So the teenager doesn't have to worry about Tello.]

[Too quick, too suspicious. He's going to worry whether it's the truth or not.]
